AMP Grant Awards announced for the 2017-18 season

Miller Theatre for the JACK Quartet’s programs in its Soundscape America series (New York).

The JACK Quartet will present a two-concert event October 19 and 21, 2017, exploring some of the most consequential American string quartets of the 20th and 21st centuries. The 11 works include music of Elliott Carter, Morton Feldman, Ruth Crawford Seeger, Gloria Coates and John Zorn.

The Singers (Minnesota)

The Singers will present an American choral program May 19 and 20, 2018, featuring John Corigliano’s “Fern Hill,”  Dominick Argento’s “Dover Beach Revisited, Ned Rorem’s “From an Unknown Past” and Jake Runestad’s “Come to the Woods.” The Singers will record all four works along with music of Samuel Barber, William Schuman, and Cecil Effinger.

Commonwealth Chorale (Massachusetts)

The Commonwealth Chorale will mark the 150th birthday season of pioneering American composer Amy Beach with a performance November 11, 2017 of her rarely heard Mass in E-Flat Major. Presented in a new critical edition by Matthew Phelps, the concert will also mark the 125th anniversary of the Mass’s premiere.

Amici Tonic Vocal Ensemble (Columbus, Ohio)

The Amici Tonic Vocal Ensemble will present a program of American vocal chamber music in the Spring of 2018, which will feature Dominick Argento’s “To be Sung Upon the Water,” George Rochberg’s “3 Psalms for Vocal Quartet,” and  Andrew List’s “Journey of Seasons.”
